In Excel, the AND function helps you to check entries in your workbook. You can find out exactly what the formula does and how you can use it here.
The "AND" function in Excel
The AND formula is used to define criteria that must be met at the same time for a field to return a positive value. This gives you all the relevant properties of a table entry at a glance.
- Select the "Formulas" tab. In the "Function library" area you will find the AND function in the "Logical" dropdown menu. Alternatively, you can create the formula by clicking on the "fx" symbol at the top left next to the syntax line.
- The "Function arguments" window opens. Here you define the conditions that must be met so that the selected field outputs the value "TRUE". To do this, you determine a target area and a target value.
- For example, if your first condition for entries in column D is that there is a number less than 18 in column B, the truth value1 is "B2: B4 <18". To make it easier to find target areas, you can define names for individual cells or cell areas.
- You can combine this condition with any other criteria. For example, if you want to know whether a participant is underage for an event, the formula in your address list could be "= (AND (age <18; participation =" yes "))".
