Excel: count words - how it works
If you want to know how many words you have written in Excel, you can have them counted. In this practical tip, we will show you exactly how this works.
Words count in Excel - how it works
With Excel you can only count the words used within a line. Unfortunately, it is not possible to count all the words used.
- Use the function "= LENGTH (cell) -LENGTH (CHANGE (cell;" ";" ")) + 1" to count the words of a line.
- Change "cell" with the actual row, such as A3.
- Tip: To calculate the total number of words, you can use the formula = (SUM (cell1; cell2; cell3).
- Again, you have to adjust "Cell1" with the first cell, "Cell2" with the second and "Cell3" with the third cell.
- You can see a result in our adjacent picture.
This practical tip is based on Microsoft Office 2016 under Windows 10. In the next practical tip, you will learn how to count empty cells in Excel.
