Excel: Count X - Here's how
If you have marked the empty cells in your table with an X in Excel, you can have the spreadsheet count how many cells there are. You can find out how to do this in this practical tip.
Let Excel count all X in a table
Counting the cells filled with X is very easy with the right function:
- First click on the cell in which you would like to have the result displayed.
- Then click on the function symbol in front of the toolbar. Then write the corresponding function after the equal sign. Alternatively, place the equal sign in the cell in which you want the result to appear later and write the formula behind it.
- The required function is called "count if". In the formula, you first specify the area to be searched. Then write the value that Excel should count. The formula could then look like this, for example: = count if (B3: D7; "x").
- Alternatively, instead of the value "X", enter a cell in which the value you are looking for is located. For example, it could look like this: = count if (B3: D7; B3).
A normal distribution is also shown quickly in Excel. In the next post we have put together the individual steps for you.
