Square number in Excel: This formula makes it possible
To square a number in Excel, you need to enter a formula. Formulas are always introduced with an equal sign (more on formulas in Excel).
- Use the formula "= x ^ 2" to square the number x.
- For example, if you want to square the number 5, enter "= 5 ^ 2" (without quotation marks) and confirm with [Enter].
- Instead of entering the number directly, you can also enter a cell reference. For example, enter "= B6 ^ 2" to square the number in cell B6.
- If all other cells are also to be squared, move the mouse to the lower right edge of the cell with the formula until the mouse changes. Then hold the mouse button down and drag the formula with the mouse over all relevant cells.
