Open EXE file: How to unzip it
EXE files are everywhere and indispensable on Windows. If you want to open and unzip an EXE file yourself, you need special software. We'll show you how it's done.
Open EXE file: What does unpacking bring?
- The abbreviation EXE stands for the English word "execute". The EXE files mainly execute programs and installations.
- You can open EXE files with a simple double click. However, if you want to take a look behind the scenes of the EXE file, you need additional software.
- Depending on the file, an EXE hides more or less files. If you unpack the EXE of an installation file, you can sometimes start the programs directly without installation. With programs that are already somewhat more complex, however, small and large problems can arise.
Windows: Extract the EXE file yourself
- First, download and install the Universal Extractor. The program is completely free.
- Now start the tool. Sometimes you have to navigate to the path "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Universal Extractor" or look in the start menu.
- Click on the button with the three dots at the top right and select an EXE file from your computer.
- If you wish, you can adjust the target directory. If you do not change it, a new folder will be created in the path of the EXE file.
- The process starts with the "OK" button. Depending on the EXE file, you may have to wait a few seconds.
- You will then find the extracted EXE file in the previously selected file path.
