Run EXE program on Mac - so it'll work
In this guide, we'll show you how to run EXE programs on your Mac.
Mac: Run the EXE program
There are several ways to run an EXE file on Mac. You can use a simple emulator as well as an emulator for a Windows system.
- The CrossOver for Mac OS program gives you an extremely slim emulator. The software allows you to easily install and run EXE programs. You can find detailed instructions in the next paragraph.
- Alternatively, you can use the VirtualBox for Mac OS emulator to install any version of Windows on your Mac. Although this takes up a lot of space and requires an existing Windows installation DVD, it is free of charge. You can find step-by-step instructions in this practical tip.
Instructions: Run the EXE program with CrossOver on Mac
If you do not have a Windows DVD, you only have to use CrossOver for Mac OS. The demo version can be used for 30 days. The full version costs around 51 euros.
- After installing CrossOver, start the EXE file of the desired program with a double click.
- Then CrossOver starts. In the demo version, you must first click on the "Test now" button. CrossOver then analyzes the EXE file.
- Enter the name of the program in the search bar at the top and select the correct search result. If the program does not appear, click on "Other application".
- Click on the "Install" button at the bottom right.
- If you have successfully installed the program, you will return to CrossOver. Click on the "Done" button to open the location of the program.
- Now you can simply run the EXE program with a double click - just like on "real" Windows PCs.
