There can be many reasons to voluntarily hand in the driver's license, although sometimes the waiver of the driver's license is not entirely voluntary. Giving your driver's license is one of the few bureaucratic procedures that the authorities make very easy for you.
Give up your driver's license voluntarily - how it works
Obtaining a driver's license is relatively time-consuming and, above all, very expensive. Voluntarily waiving your driver's license is therefore only an option for very few drivers. As already mentioned, the process itself is very simple.
- You can express your waiver of your driver's license by drawing up and signing a waiver.
- You address the waiver to the driving license authority responsible for you. You also provide your address.
- In the declaration, you clearly state that you want to waive your driving license in the future. Remember to sign the driver's license waiver.
- Tip: The driving license office often offers a corresponding form, so you don't have to write the letter yourself.
- Then add your driver's license to the letter so that the matter is already settled. If you do not hand in the driver's license directly to the driving license authority, you should at least send the document by registered post.
- Finally, you will receive confirmation that you will go through life without a license in the future. If you want, you will get your driver's license printed with the word "invalid".
- From that moment on, you are happier pedestrians or enjoy life on public transport. You are no longer allowed to drive a car while driving a car.
Do not give your driver's license entirely voluntarily - then it may be necessary
If you voluntarily return your driver's license "involuntarily", the process is the same. However, the motivation to waive the driver's license is usually completely different.
- If you were caught under the influence of drugs and / or alcohol while driving your vehicle, there may be a suspicion that you are not suitable for driving a motor vehicle in accordance with Section 46 of the Driving License Ordinance.
- In this case, you have the option of handing in the driver's license "voluntarily". If you do not do this, the driver's license is usually forcibly withdrawn. However, this entails additional administrative costs that you have to bear.
- If the driver's license is forcibly withdrawn, this has the advantage that your points account in Flensburg will also be deleted. If you hand in your driver's license voluntarily, your points will remain in Flensburg.
- If you would like to have your driving license back later, there are of course certain hurdles in the room. One of these is, for example, medical examinations, such as proof of MPU abstinence.
- You may also have to take the driver's license exam again.
- It is also annoying, but at least it is much easier to apply for a new driver's license once the validity has expired.
