If you want to back up your data from Facebook, you can request a backup online. All information, posts, images and videos that are on the Facebook page are stored in this. Contributions from other people are not saved. You will also receive all personal messages and chat histories.
Download Facebook data
Facebook only sends you the data to which you have access and for which you also have the right to inspect. For example, if your friends' email addresses are not approved for this, they will not be saved. After a while you will receive the backup as a ZIP file for download.
- Open Facebook and log in.
- Click on the gear icon at the top right and select the "Account Settings" (see picture).
- At the bottom you will see the blue link "Download a copy of your Facebook data".
- Once you have selected it, click on the "Build my archive" button.
- Then enter your password and click again on "Build my archive".
- Now it can take up to three days before your files are ready for you to download. If this is the case, you will be notified by email.
View Facebook data
- Open the ZIP file with Windows Explorer or use a packer program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip.
- You will now see the "hmtl" and "photos" folders and the "index.htm" file. If you open this file in your browser, you can click through your complete profile. For this you will find a menu on the left side (see picture).
- Open the "photos" folder and you will find additional folders in it, each containing a file called "index.htm". All of these files contain different groups of photos. These are divided into your profile pictures, cover pictures, cell phone uploads and chronicle photos.
