Facebook Marketplace: what is it? Easily explained
The Facebook Marketplace is a mixture of eBay classifieds and a neighborhood flea market. We'll show you what's behind it and how to find good bargains.
What is Facebook Marketplace?
- Facebook Marketplace is Facebook's answer to Ebay classifieds. Here everyone can sell or give away products free of charge and browse through the offers of other users.
- The only requirement for the Facebook Marketplace is a Facebook account. Then you can browse through the various offers at www.facebook.com/marektplace.
- You can easily find products by searching the individual categories and switching between "buy" and "sell".
- If you have found an item, you can save it or contact the seller. In contrast to Ebay and Amazon, there are no fees for this.
Facebook Marketplace: Buy Item
- You can search for products using keywords and categories. Please note that there are various preset filters. For example, only products from Facebook users who live within a certain radius of you are displayed. However, you can adjust this radius so that you can find more products.
- If you click on an item, you can contact the seller using the blue button. Communication runs via Facebook Messenger, the prices are mostly negotiable.
- You must agree directly with the seller whether you want to collect the item or have it sent to you. You also have to agree on the payment method. The safest way is to pay cash when you pick it up.
- Tip: For more expensive items (e.g. a used car, notebook, etc.) you should definitely make a purchase contract.
Sell items on Facebook Marketplace
- To offer an article yourself, click on the blue button "+ Sell something" on the marketplace homepage.
- Next, enter the product name, price and your location.
- Then select a suitable category and describe the article as precisely as possible. For example, it is important whether there are scratches or small defects.
- Finally, you should upload at least one photo of the article. Then click on "Post".
- If interested parties report in the next few hours / days, you must agree on the payment method and the shipping / collection.
