Facebook: New terms and conditions - you should pay attention to this
The new terms and conditions of the social network Facebook should come into force on January 30, 2015. We have already put together for you what changes and what you should pay attention to.
New Facebook terms and conditions: mandatory instead of freestyle
To anticipate: If you want to continue using Facebook, you have to accept the terms and conditions - whether you like them or not. You are also not explicitly asked. Log in to Facebook from February 1st, 2015, you automatically agree to the terms and conditions.
Social media or data protection - both are probably not possible
Social networks like Facebook are not really suspected of seeing data protection as the top priority. You finance yourself through advertising. And this is controlled by your usage behavior on the Internet. With the new terms and conditions, Facebook pulls even more data about you and your surfing behavior.
- Advertising on Facebook is becoming even more personalized. So far, "only" your search behavior has been evaluated to show you interesting products, Facebook goes one step further. Your location data and that of your friends will be linked to the advertising partners. For example, if you are looking for a laptop on the Internet in the future, you will receive advertising on Facebook from the specialist dealer around the corner.
- You can also shop in the new Facebook without leaving the social network. A "Buy" button makes it possible.
What you should pay attention to in the future on Facebook
As already mentioned, you cannot avoid agreeing to the new terms and conditions if you want to continue using Facebook.
- Check your privacy settings frequently. With the introduction of new terms of use, Facebook will reset your previous settings.
- Facebook promises that the data guidelines will be shorter and easier to understand in the future. This is only because important points in the account settings were simply moved. You will then find them in the "Basics of data protection" guide.
- You can see in the future why you are getting certain advertisements. An icon at the top right of the display shows you which target group you have been assigned to and can also change them. You can also hide the advertising.
- You can only really protect yourself from espionage by Facebook if you delete your Facebook account and use an alternative network.
