In order to properly display your profile picture on Facebook, you should upload it in the optimal size or format. We'll tell you what to look out for.
Facebook profile picture: Are there the optimal dimensions?
It doesn't matter what size your Facebook profile picture is. To ensure that not only a part of the image but the entire image section can be seen in the preview, the following must be observed:
- Since the frame for the profile picture on your Facebook page is square, your profile picture should also be square.
- It does not matter whether it is 300x300 pixels or 700x700 pixels. Facebook automatically compresses the image for you.
- However, the picture should not be smaller than 200x200 pixels, otherwise the quality will suffer greatly. If it is smaller, it is enlarged to the minimum instead of reduced and accordingly appears pixelated and out of focus.
- Use either image editing software or an appropriate app on your smartphone to crop the image square. Alternatively, you can crop the picture on Facebook. Read how to change, upload and crop the profile picture in the next paragraph.
Set Facebook profile picture correctly
- Open your profile on Facebook, move the mouse over your profile picture and click on "Edit" (see picture).
- Here you can select an existing photo or upload a new one - whether square or not.
- Once this has been done, you can change the image section directly. Cut it roughly square. This does not have to be perfect, since minor deviations are not noticeable.
- Often your image will be slightly zoomed in on the thumbnail preview in your profile. To avoid this, move the mouse pointer over the image again, click on "Edit" and select the item "Edit thumbnail" (see image). Place a checkmark in front of the item "Resize" and click on "Save".
- Your profile picture should now be the optimal size.
