Facebook: Use USB security key - Instructions
If you use a USB security key to log in to Facebook, it is much more secure than with just a password. Here we show how to set up the security key.
Use USB security key on Facebook
Two-factor authentication is more secure than logging on with just one password. If your password is stolen, the fraudster will still not be able to log in. USB security keys also work according to this principle. You can only log in with the stick. However, not every USB security key works. Facebook only allows a stick that uses the "Universal Two Factor (U2F) Standard" of the FIDO Alliance, such as the YubiKey.
- Log in to Facebook as usual with your access data.
- Now switch to the "Settings". You will find it under the small arrow at the top right. Here you navigate to "Security and login" in the left sidebar.
- In the overview, click on "Registration" and there on "Use two-step authentication".
- Various options are displayed. Click "Add Key" after "Security Key".
- In the dialog window you will be asked to connect your security key to the USB port. Follow the instructions until the key is registered.
- If you have problems activating or later using the security key, clearing the browser cache or deleting the temporary data can help.
