Facebook: detect virus - how it works
Viruses are repeatedly distributed via Facebook. In this practical tip, we explain how you can recognize a virus there.
Facebook viruses: news and links
- From strangers: If you receive a message from a stranger with a link or a file as an attachment, you can assume that it is a virus. Just delete the message.
- From friends: You should also be critical when sending messages from friends. If the link or the file appears untrustworthy at first glance, you will receive the link with a text in English or your friend will send you the link without any comment should you become aware. It is also very likely that this is a virus.
- Links: Links and videos posted by like pages are particularly tricky. Here you cannot actually know whether it is a virus. We therefore recommend that you only like serious websites and read the comments on the link in case of doubt.
Check Facebook applications
- Many Facebook applications do not act as viruses, but you can spy on them. So a supposed game app can read all your personal messages.
- Therefore, check your Facebook applications and remove dubious and unknown entries. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
Prevent faecbook viruses
Always be critical when using Facebook. Trust only the big and reputable like sites. Ignore messages from strangers. If you get suspicious links and attachments from friends, ask before clicking on them.
