Facebook Watch is the new streaming service from Facebook. Strictly speaking, it is not that new. We explain what is behind Facebook Watch.
Facebook Watch bundles videos on Facebook
There is a new button in the Facebook app: In the middle of the menu bar - between friends and notifications - there is now a video button for Facebook Watch.
- Under Facebook Watch, Facebook bundles all videos from pages that you have liked on Facebook.
- Tap on the button for Facebook Watch, you will get the most popular videos displayed. It is not known what criteria Facebook uses to suggest the videos. What is striking, however, is that the videos have been viewed frequently up high and have generated many likes / reactions.
- You will also find a watchlist of the popular videos: Here you can go directly to the videos on a page.
- The videos on Facebook Watch are all videos that have already been uploaded to Facebook. They are now available for everyone who likes to watch videos for hours.
Big plans for Facebook Watch
So far, the offer of Facebook Watch is still manageable. After all, there are only videos that are already on Facebook anyway. But the social network has big plans for its streaming service:
- Watch parties with Facebook users, premieres and new video formats with quiz and survey tools should be possible in the future.
- Live videos should also be easier for users to find.
- According to its own statements, Facebook also works with major German TV stations for the video platform, including the ProSiebenSat1 and RTL groups.
- The goal is not to leave the field of video streaming to YouTube, but to bind Facebook users to their own platform.
