If Facebook should no longer advertise with your profile data, you can simply prohibit this from the social network. We'll show you where to find the appropriate settings.
Prohibit Facebook advertising with profile data
The topic of advertising is a delicate matter on Facebook, because your data is collected, stored and evaluated for this. To optimally adjust the advertising settings, follow these instructions:
- Open the Facebook website and click on the small arrow in the top right corner.
- Select the "Settings" here and switch to the "Ads" category on the left.
- Here you will find different options. To completely prevent advertising with your Facebook profile, select the options "Off", "No" and "Nobody".
- In the next paragraph, we will show you exactly what is hidden behind the individual settings.
Facebook: Prevent advertising with your own profile
- Ads based on my use of websites and apps: Facebook uses "interest-based online advertising" to advertise websites that you have previously visited. If you look for shoes in an online shop, it is quite likely that this online shop will then appear in the advertising ads on Facebook.
- Ads in apps and on websites that do not belong to Facebook: With this option, you allow Facebook to place advertisements on platforms that do not belong directly to Facebook. These are websites that cooperate with Facebook for advertising purposes.
- Ads with my social actions: If a company advertises its own Facebook page on Facebook, your name can be used as a reference. If you have liked the CHIP Facebook page and one of your friends has received an advertisement for the CHIP page, it says above the ad that you like this page.
- Ads based on my settings: Here you can see which Facebook advertising partners (e.g. Amazon or Zalando) you are indirectly connected to and can also remove this connection (see picture). Among other things, you can also prohibit advertising for alcohol here.
