FairBnB is the alternative to AirBnB for everyone who does not want to support profit-oriented companies but also wants to be socially involved. You can find out exactly what the differences to AirBnB are in this practical tip.
FairBnB: The advantages of the AirBnB alternative
You know AirBnB and you know how this platform works. For us end users, FairBnB is very similar to AirBnB, but there are great advantages for the landlords and residents of the holiday destinations. The platform was founded by neighbors and users as a cooperative, not as a company. With FairBnB you are committed to sustainable tourism and are not profit-oriented. There are two major differences to AirBnB:
- Unlike AirBnB, FairBnB does not use the commission as a capital gain. They use 50% to pay employees and support the platform.
- The other 50% of the commission is used for social projects of your choice. For example, if you are traveling to Rome, you can support the project that takes care of housing for the residents. Because this has been a big problem since the AirBnB boom, since most landlords now only rent apartments to holiday guests at high prices and no longer to locals.
- The second big plus point arises from the goal that FairBnB has. FairBnB uses the profit you make, partly as a reinvestment in social projects, to tackle mass tourism, protect locations and fight gentrification.
FairBnB: This is how the AirBnB alternative works
FairBnB is a fair alternative to AirBnB and wants to ensure fair tourism for both the guest and the local residents. However, the start date for Germany is currently still unknown. From when you can make bookings is not yet clear, since the platform is still in its infancy.
