Fallout 4: More FPS - so you increase the frame rate
If Fallout 4 runs too slowly on your PC or the game hangs, you can achieve more FPS (i.e. a higher frame rate) with the right settings. We'll show you how to play Fallout 4 with even more fun.
Fallout 4: Increase frame rate (FPS)
Note: While the following tips will improve Fallout 4's performance, miracles will not work. If Fallout 4 is going very badly, the following changes won't make much difference.
- First open the Fallout 4 installation folder, which you can usually find under "C: \ Program Files (x86)".
- Search for the file "Fallout4Prefs.ini" and open it with the right-click with the editor.
- With the key combination [Ctrl] + [F] you can now search for the line with the entry "iPresentinterval".
- Change the value from 1 to 0.
- Now look for the line "bForceIgnoreSmoothness". Change the value the other way around from 0 to 1, save the file and close it.
- The next time you start Fallout 4, you should notice a slight improvement in FPS.
Tips & Tricks: Increase FPS in Fallout 4
- Graphics card: Using the latest driver for your graphics card can also increase the frame rate, if only minimally. The following practical tips provide instructions for upgrading Nvidia and ATI Radeon graphics cards.
- Process: Open the Task Manager and look for the "Fallout4.exe" process. Right-click on it under the "Details" tab and select "High" under "Set priority". Warning: This can cause your system to crash and become unstable. After the next restart, all changes are discarded.
