Fallout 4 keeps crashing and you don't know why? - We have compiled possible reasons and suggested solutions so that you can fully immerse yourself in the post-apocalyptic world of the game.
Option 1: Fallout crashes due to outdated drivers
Before you start updating drivers or doing anything similar, you should first uninstall and reinstall the game. If you have already tried this unsuccessfully, here is a suggested solution:
- Update drivers: Make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers installed. If you have a Nivida graphics card, you can download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website. If you have an AMD graphics card, you can select the appropriate driver from a drop-down list on the official website
- Before installing the new driver, you should uninstall your outdated AMD or Nvidia drivers. This works via Control Panel => Programs => Uninstall Programs. Simply select the appropriate driver from the list and uninstall it.
Possibility 2: Check the game in Steam
This option is only suitable for you if you purchased the game via the Steam platform.
- Another way to fix game crashes is through the settings on the Steam gaming platform. To do this, go to the "Library" section by right-clicking on the "Settings" of the game.
- There you will find the "Check files for errors" option under the "Local files" tab (the fourth option in the list). Click on it and let Steam do a game review.
- If the check is successful, you should be able to start the game as normal and the crash problems should be fixed.
Option 3: Uninstall mods
- If the game crashes, Bethesda recommends uninstalling any mods that may be installed. For this you should deactivate or remove all installed mods.
- If the game still doesn't start, disable your internet connection and remove the mod from the folder where you installed it.
More options
- If the above solutions don't work for you, you can delete the game's INI files: Navigate to C: \ Users \\ Documents \ my games \ Fallout4 (default location) and delete the following files:
Fallout4.ini
Fallout4Custom.ini
Fallout4Prefs.ini
This will reset all game settings. Now try to start the game regularly. - Change display mode: Change the display mode of your game to "borderless window mode". To do this, go to "Options" in the Fallout 4 start menu and then click on the "Window mode" and "Borderless" check boxes at the bottom. Now try again to start your game.
