Fax machine does not work - the most common causes
If your fax machine is not working, there can be various reasons. In this practical tip, you can read what these can be.
Fax machine does not work - it could be because of it
Faxing has generally gone out of style, but is still widely used in larger companies, for example. If your fax machine goes on strike at home, this can often be caused by one of the following.
- As there are fax machines from many different manufacturers, you should always consult the device manual and carry out the configuration of the fax device exactly according to the instructions.
- If you are not using the original connection cable, you should give it a try. Generally check whether all module cables are connected.
- Make sure that your answering machine does not accept an earlier ring signal than the ring tone set for the fax. Otherwise it will not be possible to receive faxes because it is intercepted by the answering machine.
- Check the splitter you may have connected your fax to. Remove the plug from the F socket in the middle and insert the fax into the N socket on the right or left. This way you can ensure that your fax is dialing and ready to send.
- To test whether your fax machine is configured correctly, you can also perform a fax diagnostic test on many models. Ideally, you will find a button for the diagnostic test directly on your device.
- Also make sure that your machine is set up for the correct fax number and not for a phone number. To do this, enter all digits including the area code.
- If an error occurs during the dialing process, you should take breaks into account when entering the fax number if your device dials too quickly.
- If in doubt, you should have your phone line checked or try your fax machine at a different location.
