Wash feather pillows: you should note that
You should wash feather pillows regularly. Experts recommend washing the feather pillows once a year. However, the feather pillows are very sensitive. So that the feathers do not clump together, it is important to be careful when washing and drying.
Wash feather pillows - which you should definitely avoid
Shake up your feather pillow every morning and briefly air it at the window. This is a simple but very effective measure to take care of the sensitive pillow. However, it is inevitable to wash the feather pillow occasionally. To ensure that the pillows are just as fluffy afterwards as before the wash, you should note the following points:
- Always wash the feather pillows by yourself.
- Before you put the pillow in the washing machine, push out any springs that come out and put the pillow in a wash bag. The pillows occasionally lose feathers and these can damage the washing machine. Alternatively, use a pillow with a zipper.
- Do not use fabric softener. The ingredients in the fabric softener cause the feathers to stick together.
- A special down detergent is ideal as a detergent. In contrast to other detergents, down detergents do not attack the fat layer of the individual feathers. Down detergents also have a moisturizing effect.
- Set a temperature of 30 to a maximum of 40 degrees and the gentle cycle. You should also read the manufacturer's instructions in advance.
- Strong skidding is also counterproductive for the delicate feathers. Select 600 revolutions per minute.
- Tip: If you put washing balls or alternatively tennis balls in the washing machine, these ensure that the feathers do not stick together.
Drying a feather pillow - how it works
To dry, put the feather pillow in the dryer with tennis or dryer balls.
- The wet feathers are gently moved back and forth in the dryer so that they do not clump together. However, if you place the wet pillow on the drying rack, there is a high risk that the feather pillow will be very hard afterwards.
- After taking the feather pillow out of the dryer, shake it well first. Then place it on a drying rack so that the remaining moisture can escape.
- Leave the pillow on the drying rack for a day or two. Don't forget to shake the feather pillow well every now and then.
- Note: If you are planning to buy new pillows or blankets, you should consider in advance whether it is absolutely necessary to have down quality. The keeping of ducks and geese in large numbers is almost always associated with the worst cruelty to animals and so-called live plucking is still very common. The feathers are pulled out of the animals alive under unimaginable agony.
