Fix 404 error - does it work?
Almost everyone who has surfed the net regularly has had a 404 error. In this practical tip, we will show you which options are available to remedy the error.
Error 404: Fix "Not found"
Error 404 belongs to the fourth group of HTTP messages and thus to client-side errors. If you see this error, it means that the content you requested is not available. The file was not found. You should therefore ensure that you have correctly entered the address for the file in the address bar of your browser.
- First of all, you should make sure that URLs are "key-sensitive". This means that after the slash behind the domain, upper and lower case play an important role. Make sure that the address is spelled correctly.
- The file you are trying to access may have been renamed, moved, or deleted on the server. If possible, check whether the file still exists and is stored in its original position.
- If you enter the link to a newly registered domain, error 404 may appear. The website then has no content and returns the 404 error to your browser. In this case, you should contact the operator so that he can provide the desired content.
- Occasionally there are server-side network problems or the server is shut down. In this case too, you should contact the operator of the site so that they can correct the error.
- It can also happen that the domain is no longer in use or cannot be resolved. In this case, the browser cannot determine which server the desired files are on and therefore cannot display them.
