Troubleshooting: The device cannot be started (code 10)
If you get the error code "The device cannot start (code 10)" in the device manager, there may be a problem with the driver concerned. We'll show you how to fix the problem.
Code 10: The device cannot be started
If there is a problem with a device driver, Windows displays error code 10. You can fix the problem with a few tricks within a few minutes:
- First, make sure you have the correct and up-to-date driver installed for the device. You can either download it from the manufacturer's website or obtain it via Windows update.
- Microsoft has also released a Fix-It on the official website. Download this and run the program to fix the error.
- The problem is often caused by tuning tools such as "TuneUp Utilities". We therefore recommend that you undo all actions of the tool.
- Perhaps a virus or malware is also responsible for this error. Therefore, check your PC completely for unwanted programs.
- If that doesn't help, you can connect your device to another free port. How to rule out a hardware defect. If you use a cable, replace it as a test.
- If you have a second PC on hand, you should try the device on it. If you receive the same error there, there may be a defect in the device and you have to replace it.
- Then contact the device manufacturer for further assistance.
