Repair bad hard drive sectors - how it works

If your hard drive is not working properly, there are two ways to repair the bad sectors. We show you how you can proceed.
Windows: Repair bad hard drive sectors
- Press the [Windows] and [E] keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens.
- Then right-click on the desired hard disk and select the "Properties".
- Switch to the "Tools" tab above and click on the "Check" button under the "Error Checking" category.
- If you can then activate several options, you should mark the corresponding checkboxes. With a click on "Scan drive" or "Start", you start the test and repair.
CMD: Fix bad hard disk sectors
Alternatively, you can check and repair your hard drive without a graphical user interface:
- First start the command prompt (CMD) as administrator. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
- Enter the command "chkdsk d: / f / r" in the black console and confirm with [Enter].
- Windows then checks your entire hard drive for errors. After a few minutes you will see a result. If errors are found, Windows tries to repair them automatically.
