Do you get the error message "Could not find the file flash.ocx" and do not know what to do? We will help you here.
What is flash.ocx?
The flash.ocx file is related to Adobe Flash Player. You often get the error message when running an older screen saver that requires Flash and therefore the file flash.ocx. This is due to the fact that the flash.ocx file has been replaced by the flash9.ocx file in newer versions of the Flash Player.
There are several ways to fix the problem: reinstall Flash Player, reinstall the screensaver, or simply rename the file.
Fix error message: Reinstall Flash Player
To uninstall the Adobe Flash Player, you can download the uninstaller from Adobe at Chip.de, which removes all components of the Flash Player without leaving any residue.
- Close all programs that use the Flash Player, for example your browser.
- Now double-click the uninstaller to run it and follow the instructions. The Flash Player is now removed.
- Reinstall the Flash Player: You will find the corresponding download in the CHIP download area.
- Close your browser, open the installer and follow the instructions.
- Now you have reinstalled the Flash Player and the error message with flash.ocx should no longer occur.
Still getting the flash.ocx error message? Reinstall the screensaver
If that didn't help, check whether the developer of the screensaver has released an update. The best way to do this is to search for the name of the screen saver on a search engine and reinstall the screen saver.
- Go to the page of the developer who created your screensaver and download the screensaver again.
- Open the control panel.
- Find the entry of your screen saver and click on "Uninstall".
- Now open the installation file of your screensaver again and follow the instructions.
- Your screensaver should now be reinstalled and should no longer generate an error message.
