Bad buy on Amazon - what to do?
Cancellation, return, money back - find out what you can do if you make a mistake on Amazon in this practical tip.
Before shipping: Cancel pending Amazon orders directly
With Amazon you can cancel individual items as well as entire orders if they have not yet been shipped by Amazon or one of the affiliated retailers.
- To do this, click on "My Account" on the Amazon page.
- Select the "My Orders" item to list your recent purchases.
- Click the "Cancel Item" button to the right of the open order.
- Now follow the further instructions to cancel the order. If you have already paid, Amazon will transfer the money back to you within a few days.
After delivery: return unwanted items
Amazon grants you a 30-day return policy on every order. During this time, you can send back your bad purchases with little effort:
- Open the Amazon page here and click on "My Account".
- Click the "Return or replace item" button.
- Now mark the mistakenly purchased product. Then under "Reason for return" choose "Order placed by mistake" (see screenshot).
- You can then print out a return slip. Stick the note on your package and send it back to Amazon. After a few days you will get your money back here.
- Amazon will assume the cost of the return if the item to be returned exceeds the value of 40 euros and you have canceled the purchase within 14 days of receipt. For clothing and handbags, returns are free of charge within 14 days.
Exceptions: You cannot return these items on Amazon
The right of withdrawal does not apply to some products. You can only return these items if they are defective:
- Goods that are not suitable for return for hygiene reasons.
- Sealed sound carriers or video recordings
- Articles that were made especially for you.
- Perishable items, such as groceries
- Printed matter such as magazines or magazines
- Alcoholic beverages that could only be delivered 30 days after ordering and the price of which is subject to fluctuations.
