Eating figs: why the superfood is so healthy
Figs are healthy. Whether fresh and low in calories or dried as an energy source. It belongs to the so-called false fruit and is great for snacking with its many healthy ingredients.
What is in a fig?
A fig (approx. 60g) has only about 40 kcal, not more than an apple. The sweet fruit from the Mediterranean region is becoming increasingly popular in Germany because it offers a variety of healthy ingredients.
- Figs contain many vitamins. Vitamin A ensures healthy skin, strengthens your eyesight and protects the mucous membranes. Vitamin B strengthens the metabolism and the nerves. Vitamin E contributes to the defense against cell-damaging substances.
- Your body needs potassium and calcium to build bones. These minerals are contained in figs as well as magnesium, iron and zinc.
- Figs also consist of digestive enzymes and provide a feeling of satiety with fiber.
Dried figs as a snack, energy boost and gentle laxative
Dried figs have considerably more calories than their fresh equivalent. Drying increases their sugar content to almost 60 percent. But the fruit also convinces with its effect in dried form.
- When doing sports, the delicious dried fruits are great as a healthy source of energy.
- The fruits contain very little acid. They stimulate digestion and help against constipation.
- This is how you can easily make a gentle laxative yourself: Cover 2 to 3 figs overnight with a little water and take them in the morning with the liquid.
