Windows cannot be closed - you can do that
Sometimes it happens under Windows that the window of a program can no longer be closed. To make matters worse, this often pushes to the fore and makes normal work impossible. This practical tip shows you how to close the window anyway.
Close faulty window under Windows with Task Manager
First of all you should try to close the window via the Task Manager.
- To do this, press the [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] keys simultaneously and select the "Task Manager" option.
- For Windows 8 and 10, click on the "More details" item to also display the open windows.
- Then right-click on the window that can no longer be closed. A context menu then opens.
- As soon as you select the "End Task" option, Windows tries to close the window.
- If a window appears with the "End immediately" button, select it.
Log out of Windows to close windows
If the Task Manager window cannot be closed, you can also try logging out of Windows. However, all other active windows are also closed.
- To log out, click the Windows icon in the lower left.
- In Windows 7, an arrow appears next to the "Shutdown" button. If you move the mouse over it, the option "Logout" appears.
- For Windows 8/10 click on your username in the top right corner and select "Logout".
- Alternatively, use the key combination [Windows] + [L] under all systems and select the "Change user" option.
Close the Windows window with the "CloseAll" program
Bocky windows can also be closed with the freeware "CloseAll". You really get a handle on every program:
- You can download the "CloseAll" program from the CHIP download center free of charge. The helper does not bring adware.
- After installation, a list of all open windows appears in the tool.
- Check the program windows to be closed.
- Click "OK", "CloseAll" suppresses the selected windows.
If the problem occurs more frequently with a specific tool, you should either update the program or remove it from Windows.
