Book long-distance buses online: a provider comparison
There are many long-distance bus providers - but there are big differences in the comparison. We show you where the strengths and weaknesses of the providers are.
1. BerlinLlinienBus: long-distance bus provider with a large route network
- The long-distance buses of "BerlinLlinienBus" run probably the largest route network in Germany. For example, no other provider travels to Schleswig-Holstein or smaller cities such as Soltau and Bielefeld.
- But the trips with the BerlinLinenBusses are not always cheap: Only the connection between Berlin and Dresden, Leipzig, Hanover and Hamburg is available for 9 euros - if you book early (single trip at the time of the test). A journey from Cologne or Frankfurt am Main already costs 33 euros. If you do not book at least one month in advance, you will no longer receive a € 9 tariff.
- The provider also has a strong international presence: Whether London, Paris, Copenhagen, Brussels or Prague - with prices between 22 and 44 euros it is definitely a good alternative to Deutsche Bahn.
2. With Meinfernbus & Flixbus cheap through Germany
Since Meinfernbus and Flixbus have merged, they have offered the largest long-distance bus network in Germany:
- Meinfernbus & Flixbus with its huge route network also covers numerous small towns in central and southern Germany. From Flensburg to the south to Turin, in the west the network borders on Paris. Other international routes lead to Prague, Amsterdam, Milan, Budapest and Zagreb.
- The prices are usually between 7 and 29 euros and thus in the middle segment. There are often discount offers on certain routes - for example, a trip between Mannheim and Strasbourg costs 5 euros. Get a promo code, sometimes even drive for just one euro.
- It currently doesn't matter whether you book on the Flixbus or Meinfernbus website. Prices and route availability are identical. There is also WiFi in almost all buses.
3. Megabus: Big cities - small prices
Megabus is new and has made headlines with 1-euro rides:
- The international company Megabus now visits 14 German cities and is particularly worthwhile for long-haul trips abroad. From Cologne to Leicester (40 euros) is possible as well as to Dortmund (3 euros).
- For domestic travel in Germany, Megabus is only suitable from city to city. There are numerous stops in Italy, France, Great Britain and Spain.
4. Few stops, but new cities: Prague, Titisee and Co.
- "Dein-Bus" connects all major cities in southwestern Germany. From EUR 9, the buses also take you to Prague. "Dein-Bus" beckons especially with destinations like Titisee.
5. Across Europe: Eurolines
Whether Spain, Stockholm or Milan - Eurolines connects large and small cities across Europe. The bus company covers more than 800 stops, which is actually an amalgamation of many smaller companies.
- Tickets are available from 6 euros, young people, seniors and students (60+) receive a discount on the regular price.
- However, the stops in Germany are mainly limited to central and southern Germany. In terms of prices, the discount campaigns for certain routes are particularly worthwhile (can be found on the home page).
- In this overview you will find all Eurolines stops.
Conclusion: With a long-distance bus price comparison you can save money
- It is not so easy to keep track of the many providers. To get the best connection and the best tariff, there is also the "CheckMyBus" price comparison for long-distance buses.
- The busliniensuche.de website founded by students works in a similar way. You will even see the shortest travel time there. The service can also be conveniently used via an app on iPhone, Android or Windows smartphones.
- On the page fernbus.vergleich.org you can even compare long-distance bus searches. There the busliniensuche.de website also performs particularly well.
