TV no longer plays sound - what to do?
If your TV no longer plays sound, it is either due to a hardware error or the wrong settings. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
TV: TV no longer plays sound
- If you receive your TV signal via an external receiver, remove the connection between the TV and the receiver. You can then restore the connection.
- If that didn't help, pull all the plugs out of the television, including the power connector. Then only reconnect the necessary cables and check the sound.
- If the problem cannot be solved at all, it may be due to a software problem. In the settings of the TV you can reset the device to the factory settings.
- If the previous tips didn't help, the device may be defective. Then you can request a repair from the manufacturer. If the device is not older than two years, this is a warranty case and repairs are free of charge. If the device is a few years older, in many cases it is worth buying a new and current device instead of repairing it.
External devices: TV no longer plays sound
- If you have connected your computer to the television, you often have to activate the sound first. The necessary settings can be found in the Control Panel under the "Hardware and Sound" and "Sound" categories.
- If the problem occurs on an Xbox or PlayStation, automatic detection will not work. Deactivate this in the settings or switch the signal for the sound there.
- Connect the external device to the TV using an HDMI cable, check the cable on another device. The contacts wear out quickly if they are plugged frequently. Simply changing the HDMI connection on the TV can also help.
