Connect hard drive to TV - with and without USB
You can connect an external hard drive to a TV both with and without USB. We present both options here and show you how to proceed.
Connect hard drive to TV via USB connection
Connecting an external hard drive to the TV via USB is very easy:
- Simply find a free slot on the device and insert the USB plug of the hard drive.
- With 3.5 "hard drives, you also need to establish a power supply.
- Switch on the hard drive and open it on the television according to the operating instructions. You can usually find the device under "Sources".
TV: Connect hard drive without USB - with "HDMI media player"
Alternatively, you can connect the hard drive to the TV without USB:
- To do this, you need an HDMI media player, which you can buy from Amazon for around 30 euros.
- Connect this media player to your TV via HDMI and connect the hard drive to the device via USB.
- Alternatively, you can also use a Chromecast stick.
- You insert this stick into the HDMI socket of your TV. A transfer can now take place via laptop or PC.
- You can also switch to the WD TV Live Player, which did very well in our test.
