Hard drive: test speed - how it works
This practical tip shows you how to test the speed of your hard disk.
Test disk speed
- Click on the Windows Start button and search for "cmd". Then open "cmd" (the so-called "Command Prompt").
- To determine the reading speed, enter the following command: "winsat disk -seq -read -drive c". The "c" at the end tells the program which hard drive to test. If the desired hard disk has a different letter, replace the "c" with the respective letter.
- To test the write speed, use the following command: "winsat disk -seq -write -drive c". Again, you can replace the "c" with other letters for other hard drives.
