Hard disk: Create a better overview with additional partitions
You can easily create normal hard disk partitions in Windows 7 using on-board tools. In order to add an additional partition to your hard drive, you first have to make space and shrink the existing partition.
Set up additional hard disk partition under Windows 7
First of all, the existing partition on the hard disk must be reduced in order to make space:
- To do this, right-click on "Computer" in the Start menu and select "Manage".
- All available drives are displayed under the menu item »Disk management«. Right click on the hard drive you want to shrink and select "Shrink Volume".
- Now specify how much smaller the partition should be. You can minimize the partition as much as there is unused space on the hard disk. Confirm your entry with »OK« and the partition will be reduced.
- Then click on the "Unallocated" area on the right and select "New Volume". Follow the instructions of the wizard and specify how big the new partition should be and which file system you want to use for it.
- The new partition is then created, formatted and is then available as a logical drive under a newly assigned drive letter.
