Format hard disk with GPT - how it works
If you need very large partitions, you can format your hard disk with GPT. We will tell you exactly how to proceed in our practical tip.
Windows: Format hard disk with GUID partition table
If you switch from the MBR format to GPT, all content on the hard disk will be deleted. Also note that you can only change the file system for hard drives that do not contain the currently running operating system.
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter the command "diskmgmt.msc" and confirm with "OK". Then the disk management starts.
- Find the hard drive you want, right-click on each partition and select "Delete Volume".
- The complete hard disk is now considered "not assigned". Right-click the area again and select the "Convert to GPT Disk" option.
- Depending on the size of the hard drive, the process may take some time. With a right click you can then "create a new volume".
