Make the hard drive faster - the best tips
In contrast to a processor, a hard drive cannot simply be made faster or overclocked using technical means. Nevertheless, the file access can be optimized and thus faster work can be made possible. We show how it works very easily under Windows 8.
Make hard drive faster by defragmenting it
During defragmentation, the data on the hard disk is rearranged in such a way that the most used information can be called up in the shortest possible way. After all, these lie on a physical disk on which different locations also mean different distances that the reading head has to cover.
- A corresponding defragmentation tool is included in Windows 8. Go to the home screen and look for "Defragment".
- Open the "Defragment and Optimize Drives" tool.
- Here you will find a list of all drives installed in the computer. You can click on them, analyze them and then defragment them.
- Run the optimization on each of your drives. Depending on how long ago the last defragmentation occurred, this can take a few minutes.
- Tip: To get the hard drive quickly and permanently, you can set up an automatic defragmentation. To do this, go to "Change settings" in the lower area of the tool and define a time interval in which this should happen.
