Public network - what is it?
The public network is a network profile setting that you can select in the "Network and Sharing Center" of Windows. You can read what exactly is behind the profile in this article.
Public network - when and where?
This profile is intended for public Internet access, which also includes WLAN hotspots, e.g. at airports, train stations, in hotels etc. Only an Internet connection is established, file and printer sharing is deactivated by default and the Windows firewall is also based on this Profile.
Public network, home network, or workplace network?
The names of the three network profile settings already provide information about your respective areas of application: You use the workplace network in a company. A distinction is made here between working groups and domains.
- The public network is predestined for public Internet access.
- You choose the home network if you want to easily link your computers and laptops together at home. The release of files is easier and a printer can also be accessed from any computer, if one is available.
