In many cases you can do a lot with home remedies. So there are also a few antipyretic agents that you can use at an elevated temperature. You can also combine different methods.
When should you use antipyretic home remedies?
Fever is common with colds and flu, but also as a reaction of your immune system to pathogens. As an adult you have a fever from a body temperature of 38 degrees, in children the limit is 38.5 degrees .
- If you have a mild fever, you can try to lower your fever with home remedies. To do this, measure your temperature with a clinical thermometer.
- Avoid calf wraps when your hands and feet are cold or when you have chills. These only worsen your condition.
- In addition to the fever, chills, sweating, a coated tongue or loss of appetite can also occur. Pay attention to the symptoms, this may help to clarify the cause.
- If your fever persists for more than two days, does not improve or gets worse, you should urgently see a doctor! Do not rely solely on home remedies. In the worst case, a high fever can be fatal.
Calf wrap against fever
As already mentioned, you should not use calf wraps for chills or cold extremities.
- Put your towels in cold water and then wring them out well. The towel should no longer drip but should be nice and cool.
- Wrap your calves individually or together in one or two towels. Use a dry towel to avoid drenching your sofa or bed.
- If your towels are no longer cold enough, you can repeat the process.
- With this method you can reduce your temperature up to a degree.
Raw potato slices are antipyretic
Potatoes actually have a cooling effect when you slice them. If you only have a slight fever, you can try this variant.
