Filezilla: Save password for FTP server
If you often work with FileZilla, you can save your passwords in the program. However, note that this is not safe unless you are the only PC user.
FileZilla 3: Save password in the server manager
If you regularly work with an FTP server, you can save the login information in the server manager. Passwords can also be stored there - this saves time when working.
- After opening FileZilla, go to File and select "Server Manager". Alternatively, you could use the shortcut [Ctrl] + [S].
- In the new window, select "New server" at the bottom left and enter your login details on the right. Pay attention to the correct protocol and encryption.
- Enter your username and password there as well. From here you could directly connect to the FTP server. In a new window you will be asked to decide whether you want to save passwords and whether you also want to secure them with a master password.
- Note: If you share your PC with other users and have passwords saved in FileZilla, each user also has access to the data and the servers.
Password: input field grayed out
It can happen that the input field for the password is grayed out. In this case, you have installed the program in safe mode.
- You cannot save passwords in secure mode.
- To disable secure mode, you must reinstall FileZilla. Under the menu item "Edit" you can export your settings and import them again later.
- When reinstalling, however, make sure to explicitly select the "Do not use safe mode" option during setup.
If you have forgotten the password for the FTP server, you can simply read it out with FileZilla.
