Movies on PS4: These streaming services are supported
While the PS3 even plays 3D Blu-Rays, it currently doesn't work on the PS4. You can beam films from various streaming services directly onto the TV screen. We'll reveal which ones they are.
Three streaming services in the launch offer of the PS4
At the start of Playstation 4 at the end of November 2013, there were only three pre-installed streaming services for films: Lovefilm, Maxdome and Sony's own offer Video Unlimited. You search in vain for Watchever, but more are to follow. Until the test date in early February 2014, the offer remained limited:
Amazon's Lovefilm is the cheapest of the three streaming services
Lovefilm: Has been part of Amazon since 2011 and has existed since 2003. There are around 6000 streaming films and series on offer. The service is used by around 2 million customers (as of February 2012). Subscription prices for flat rates with no extra costs start at 6.99 a month. There are 30 days free for testing, after which it can be canceled monthly. The subscription is billed via Amazon and is payable by debit or credit card.
Maxdome is said to have the largest streaming offer
Maxdome: Belongs to ProSiebenSat.1 Media and was founded in 2006. According to Maxdome, 50, 000 videos should be available online with 3, 700 films, some of them in HD and in the original version. Video on demand with a flat rate is available for 7.99 euros per month; for newer films you pay extra fees. The subscription can be canceled monthly. The payment methods are Visa, Mastercard or Paypal. You can test for free for one month.
Comparison of streaming industry leaders
We compared Maxdome, Watchever and Lovefilm in detail for you in an extra article.
Incidentally, the PS4 can only cope with BluRays after playing an approximately 300 MB patch. Incidentally, at the launch stage of the PS4 it is not even possible to play CDs and MP3s, but this will change soon with a future update. Even the streaming format DNLA does not currently support the PS4.
