Fingerprint sensor in the display: This is how the technology works
Fingerprint sensors are installed in almost all smartphones - new technologies now also allow the sensor to be integrated into the display and therefore do not have its own button.
Display with fingerprint sensor - how it works
- The technology is a customized display under which a fingerprint sensor is embedded.
- If you want to unlock your cell phone, the display shows you where to place your finger. At this point your finger is illuminated and the reflection is processed by the sensor.
- It is therefore currently not possible to scan the finger anywhere on the display. However, it is conceivable that the technology is expanded so that the entire display is provided with such scanners.
- According to some tests, scratches, screen protectors and wet hands should not affect the reading effect.
- As a point of criticism, however, the duration of the scanning process is often cited, which takes around one second, which is comparatively longer than just pressing a button.
- However, the technology is still in its infancy and will be continuously improved with the following generations. So at the moment it is more of a useful gimmick than a necessary feature.
