While Amazon's Fire TV can expand the memory, the Fire TV Stick does not. We show you what you need for more storage space and alternatives for the stick.
All the information you need to expand the memory of your Fire TV Stick
The Amazon Fire TV Stick has so far not offered any possibility of internal memory expansion. We show you alternatives so that you can get the most out of memory.
- First, think about uninstalling any unnecessary Fire TV apps from the stick. This usually frees up a little more storage space.
- If you want to delete Prime Photos, deactivate the app first. Otherwise, the buffer is filled again automatically. To do this, go to Settings and navigate to Prime Photos via applications , click on the menu item Access Prime Photos and then on Deactivate .
- Also clear the cache of all apps. You will also find this option in the settings of the respective application.
- Deactivate the screen saver and clear its memory. Under Settings, click the Sound and Screen menu, and then click Screen Saver.
- Even if you cannot expand the internal memory, an external storage device can still be connected to the Fire TV stick using an adapter cable. You can play content from it, but you cannot save apps on it.
More storage for your Fire TV Box
The situation is different with the Amazon Fire TV Box. While the older model offers a USB 3.0 port for memory expansion, it is a microSD slot for the 2nd generation. In both cases, you can install apps and games on the respective external storage. What you need and how it works:
- For the Fire TV Box of the first generation you need a USB 3.0 flash drive with a maximum of 128GB and FAT32 formatting.
- For the newer models you need a microSD card with a maximum of 128GB and FAT32 formatting.
- Connect the respective storage medium to your Fire TV Box.
- A dialog window now appears on your television, which you confirm with Next .
- If your selected memory does not have FAT32 formatting, you will see the message Eject or format . Select Format to prepare the device accordingly. All data on the USB stick or microSD card will be deleted.
- The device is now checked for any existing data. A message ends the check and you can install apps and games on the storage medium.
