Firefox 31: Open settings in the tab
As of Firefox 31, there is a practical new feature: You can now open the settings as a tab. Previously, this was only possible via a window that let the browser freeze until the settings were closed again.
Firefox 31: How to open the settings in the tab
Firefox has hidden its new feature very well. Here you can read how to activate the function permanently.
- To call up the settings in Firefox version 31 in the tab, enter "about: preferences" in the address bar of the browser.
- If you want to permanently open the settings in the tab, type in the address line about: config. Confirm the warning that opens with "I'll be careful, I promise!" - "I will be careful, I promise!".
- Now type in the filter box "InContent" and search for "browser.preferences.inContent".
- Under the "Value" option there is the word "false". Double-click to convert it to "true". The Firefox settings now appear in a tab.
- Likewise, "true" should be activated at "browser.preferences.instantApply".
- Alternatively, you can simply update Firefox, because from the new Firefox version 32 - Aurora, the settings open by default in a tab and no longer in a dialog window.
- However, Firefox 32 is still an unstable alpha version at the time of testing - so caution is also required here.
