Firefox loads websites very slowly - what to do?
If the Firefox browser loads websites very slowly, this can often have a variety of causes. In this practical tip we will tell you what you can do about it.
You can do this when Firefox loads websites very slowly
- Switch to Firefox settings and then to "Advanced". Click here on the "Network" tab and finally on the "Settings" button under "Connection". Select the "No proxy from" option here. Sometimes a proxy was preset, which slowed you down.
- Check whether other programs are currently downloading. For example, antivirus programs can use the full bandwidth of your internet when downloading updates.
- A plugin may also be to blame. Enter "about: addons" in the address bar and temporarily deactivate all plugins for testing. If Firefox then runs faster, activate one plugin at a time until you have found the plugin that slows down the browser. Then uninstall or deactivate it.
- Start private mode by clicking on the three horizontal lines at the top right and selecting "Private window". Navigate to any page here. If this is loaded quickly, it is probably due to incorrect settings in the "normal" browser.
- Sometimes just restoring helps. In this case, you can try to reset Firefox to its initial state. To do this, click again on the three lines at the top right and then on the "?" Symbol at the bottom. Select the "Troubleshooting Information" item here. Finally, click on the "Reset Firefox ..." button on the right. Confirm the following window by clicking on "Reset Firefox". An attempt is made to keep your data and settings. The browser now restarts.
- Try a different browser as a test. If the problem also occurs there, you either have a slow internet connection or another program is slowing it down.
- Therefore go to the Control Panel and then select "Internet Options". Click the "Connections" tab here. If there are VPN settings here, mark all entries and remove them by clicking on "Remove".
