If you want to switch from your old Internet browser to Firefox, first import your bookmarks, your history and other data. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do this.

If you want to make Firefox your default browser in the future, you should also import your bookmarks to ensure a smooth transition. In addition, you can also copy the saved cookies, passwords and your history from your old browser.
- First click on the button with the four dashes in the top right corner (see Figure 1).
- Now select the "Bookmarks" option and then click on "Manage bookmarks". Alternatively, use the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [B] to get to the desired menu.
- On the "Import and save" tab, select the sub-item "Import data from another browser".
- In the following window you can select one of three browsers. You have the option of importing the bookmarks from Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Internet Explorer (see Illus. 2).
- Check the desired browser and click "Next".
- Next you can choose whether you want to import more of the above data in addition to the bookmarks (see Illus. 3). Then choose "Next" again.
- Now the desired data is imported into your Firefox browser. Finally click on "Finish".
- If your old browser is not in the selection, you will learn in the next chapter how you can still import your bookmarks.
Browser not available: How to import your bookmarks anyway
If your old browser is not available for selection, you can also import an HTML file into Firefox. You can read how this works in the following points.
- First of all you have to create and export an HTML file with your old browser.
- We explain in other practical tips how to do this in Opera or Safari.
- To import the created file into Firefox, repeat the first two steps of the previous chapter.
- With the button "Import bookmarks from HTML ..." you can now select the created file (see picture).
- If you click "Open", your bookmarks will be imported into Firefox.
