Start Firefox without addons - how it works
If one of your Firefox addons causes problems, you can start the browser without the extensions. We'll tell you exactly how this works in this article.
Start Firefox browser without addons
- Start Mozilla Firefox as usual and open the menu using the icon with the three horizontal bars in the top right.
- Click here on the question mark symbol (see photo) and select "Restart with deactivated addons".
- Confirm your decision with "Restart" and "Start in Safe Mode".
- Alternatively, you can hold down the [Shift] key when you start Firefox. Use "" Start in safe mode "to deactivate all addons for this session.
Start Firefox sometimes with and sometimes without addons
If you want to choose yourself when starting whether the browser should start with or without addons, you can set up several profiles:
- Press the key combination [Windows] + [R] and enter the command "firefox -p". The browser then starts in profile mode.
- Rename the standard profile "default" to "With addons". Of course, you can also use another name.
- Then click on "Create new profile" and give it the name "Without add-ons". You can also use a different name here.
- Remove the check mark next to "Do not ask at startup" and click on "Finish".
- Then restart Firefox, you can choose between the two profiles. This time opt for "Without Addons".
- Enter "about: addons" in the address bar and switch to the "Extensions" tab.
- Deactivate all addons here so that Firefox will no longer load any extensions the next time it is started. The changes remain limited to this profile.
To avoid errors, you should always update your Firefox addons. This article is based on Firefox 37.0.2.
