Firefox: Install and activate plugins
You need plugins to display a lot of content in Firefox. In this practical tip we explain how to install and activate plugins.
Firefox: Install missing plugins
Unlike add-ons, plugins are only installed if they are required for the display of website content. How to add useful functions to Firefox with add-ons can be read in another practical tip. If a plugin is missing, for example for playing videos on a website, an error message is displayed. Install the missing plugin as follows:
- In the error message you will find a link through which you can download the plugin.
- After downloading, run the file to install the plugin.
- After that you have to restart Firefox to complete the installation.
Activate plugins in Firefox
In Firefox there is a menu in the settings that you can use to manage plugins:
- Open Firefox and click the menu button at the top right.
- In the menu choose "Add-ons".
- In the bar on the left click on the "Plugins" entry.
- Here you can specify for each individual plugin whether it should be activated automatically or only on request.
