Firefox Pocket is a useful add-on, but you need to set it up first. Then the little tool is a practical addition to the popular Internet browser.
Set up Firefox Pocket: how it works
Mozilla has integrated Firefox Pocket into the Internet browser for years. The add-on is particularly useful if you are traveling on different platforms. To use it, set it up quickly first.
- You can recognize the pocket button by a downward-pointing white arrow on a dark background. The symbol is located in the address bar next to the favorite star symbol. If you click on it for the first time, Firefox will ask you to register.
- There are two options for registering: either you create a Firefox account or you register with Mozilla with an existing email account.
- Both are done quickly, all you have to do is provide an email address and a password. You can then save or retrieve data in Firefox Pocket from a wide variety of platforms. You just have to sign up for Firefox Pocket in advance.
- If you want to save an interesting content such as a video or a website, all you have to do is click on the icon.
- To view the saved content later, you must select the "Library" button. You can recognize this by a symbol consisting of three vertical lines and an oblique line. Then you have to select "Show pocket list".
- Note: To use Pocket, you need an internet connection. You can access your saved web pages and videos offline using the Pocket Apps for Android or iOS.
Pocket icon not in address bar: How to activate the add-on
If you cannot find the pocket icon in your address bar, you can easily change it.
- In your address bar, type the following: about: config
- Then press the Enter key.
- You will see a warning that says, "This may end the warranty!" This is quite normal and you don't have to worry about that. Just click on "I am aware of the dangers!"
- Enter "pocket" in the search field above the entries.
- With a double click on the item "extensions.pocket.enabled" you can change its value to "true". The icon should now be visible and you can use the function.
- Note: If you only want to use the add-on, but want to hide the icon, you can also do so. Right click on the pocket icon. You can then select the "Remove from address bar" option. If you want to get back again, you can do so with the three dots in the address bar. To do this, you must click the right mouse button again, but with the "Save page to pocket" option. Afterwards "Add to address bar" should be selectable.
