Firefox: Use tab groups correctly
To avoid losing track of many different tabs, you can use tab groups in the Firefox browser. This practical tip shows you how these can be used particularly effectively.
1. Create tab group in Firefox - how it works
- To create a tab group, you must first have a sufficient number of tabs open in Firefox. Then click the arrow at the top right and choose "Group Tabs".
- Alternatively, the key combination Ctrl + Shift + E can be used.
- Drag a tab out of the large group and drag over any other tabs you want to add to the new group.
2. Name the tab group in Firefox
- You can give each individual tab group a name. To do this, open the grouping overview with the key combination Ctrl + Shift + E.
- Click the pencil icon at the top of each group.
- Enter the desired name and confirm with "Enter".
3. Switch between tab groups in Firefox
- You can switch between the different tab groups using the "Group tabs" icon at the top right of the screen. Alternatively, the key combination Ctrl + Shift + E can be used again.
- It is a little easier with another key combination. Ctrl + `jumps to the next tab, Ctrl +` + Shift takes you to the previous tab.
- You can also arrange your groups in the overview, change their size and close individual tab groups.
4. Search tab groups in Firefox
- To search your tab groups, for example for a specific tab, open the overview page with Ctrl + Shift + E.
- Click on the magnifying glass icon at the top right and enter your search term. As soon as something is found, the corresponding tab group is highlighted.
5. Restore a closed tab group in Firefox
- If you have accidentally closed a tab group, you can restore it in the overview.
- Simply click on the "Restore closed group" button. Please note, however, that this option is no longer available after leaving the overview.
These instructions refer to Firefox 29. If you don't like the new look, you can restore the old design in the latest Firefox.
