Firewire on USB - how it works
FireWire and USB are not compatible per se. In this practical tip, we will explain the options for using FireWire on USB hosts.
FireWire on USB: With these instructions it works anyway
Since the data transfer from FireWire and USB is fundamentally different, the possibilities of using FireWire on USB devices are limited. You can try the following:
- There is hardware such as Studio MovieBox that prepares FireWire data for USB and then transfers it to the PC via USB.
- FireWire to USB adapters are abundant on the Internet. However, these usually don't work. Only a few FireWire devices seem to be USB-capable and can be recognized by the USB host with these plugs.
- If you have a computer and not a laptop, you can buy a FireWire card for the PCI or PCI Express slot.
- Some computers and laptops have an ExpressCard slot, for which there are also FireWire adapters.
- Alternatively, these FireWire connections are also available for Cardbus and PCMCIA.
