Flash cards for Nintendo 2DS / 3DS - the best models
With flash cards for the Nintendo 3DS, more functions can be extracted from the small handheld. Below we list some models for the 2DS and 3DS, however, you should note that flash cards violate applicable copyright law.
Flash cards for Nintendo 2DS / 3DS - you need to know that
- According to a court ruling by the Munich Higher Regional Court in October 2016, flashcards violate the right to intellectual property.
- It is product piracy, which is why the sale of such cards is punishable under German law.
The Supercard DSTWO for the Nintendo 3DS
The most powerful model among flash cards is the DSTWO. The Supercard team is old in the flash card area and has a lot of experience that has gone into this flash card. The flash card works on Nintendo 3DS / XL as well as New 3DS (XL) and Nintendo 2DS up to firmware version V10.2.0-28E.
- The special thing about the Supercard DSTWO is an additional built-in processor, thanks to which the flash card has more computing power than other flash cards. With specially adapted emulators, even SNES and GBA titles can be played on the DSTWO. Powerful functions such as playing videos also work without any problems on the DSTWO. However, like most models, the flash card only plays DS backup copies and not 3DS games.
- In addition, the DSTWO offers the "Free Cheat" function with which cheats can be activated. This happens while the game is running and in this way you can fix values such as number of lives or ammunition to a fixed value.
- With the real-time save function, on the other hand, you are detached from save points and can save the game at any point and start again.
- The clear advantage of the Supercard DSTWO is the manufacturer support, which initiates regular updates. The Supercard DSTWO also has juicy prices and is one of the most expensive models.
The R4i for the Nintendo 3DS
The name R4 is a popular term especially for DS users and a customized flash card is also offered for the Nintendo 3DS. The R4i works with 3DS and 2DS systems up to firmware version V11.2.0-35.
- The R4i 3DS largely serves its purpose. Like the Supercard DSTWO, it only plays Nintendo DS backup copies. Homebrew programs also work as far as possible, although the flash card cannot keep up with the performance of the Supercard DSTWO, since the R4i 3DS has not installed an additional processor.
- A major disadvantage of the R4i is the lack of manufacturer support, which releases updates rather slowly.
- However, the R4i is much cheaper to buy than the DSTWO and does without additional functions such as GBA and SNES emulators.
The Gateway 3DS
The Gateway 3DS of the team of the same name is one of the few flash cards that is able to play back up copies of Nintendo 3DS games. The Gateway 3DS comes with two flash cards, the blue one is for Nintendo DS software, while the red one is for 3DS backup copies.
- The gateway 3DS uses an error in the system to play 3DS software, but this is only included in firmware versions 9.0 - 9.2.
- The Gateway 3DS supports all 3DS models, including the two new models New 3DS and New 3DS XL. In addition, several games can be loaded onto the card at the same time, eShop games can be run and homebrew programs can also be started.
- The handling of the Gateway 3DS is rather cumbersome and not everything works properly. The card is also sold for a high price.
The MT card for 3DS
The MT-Card is a flash card for the Nintendo 3DS, with which you can select and start several games via the menu.
- Just like the Gateway 3DS, the MT card is supplied with two flash cards. The MT card also has a similar range of functions as the Gateway 3DS and allows the region lock to be bypassed and eShop games to be played.
- In contrast to the Gateway 3DS, the MT-Card has a clear disadvantage: It can only be used on 3DS systems with firmware versions 4.1 to 4.5.
- For this reason, very few gamers can use the MT card, as new 3DS models are delivered with higher firmware versions.
The Sky3DS + for the Nintendo 3DS
While the Gateway 3DS is the first flash card to support 3DS games at all, Gateway goes one step further with the new Sky3DS +. The Sky3DS + is, by its own account, the first flash card that now supports the playing of 3DS games in all versions of the Nintendo 3DS. The SKY3DS + also works with all 3DS update Roms.
- The Sky3DS + flash card is compatible with the Nintendo 3DS (XL), New 3DS (XL) and Nintendo 2DS up to version V11.2.0-35 or lower.
- The flash card primarily advertises multi-ROM support.
- With Sky3DS + you can get 3DS games running on any Nintendo 3DS console, even the latest version.
- However, many users have difficulties with 64GB memory cards, which is why it is usually recommended to use 32GB cards.
- It is also particularly important that the card is formatted in FAT32 format and the cluster size is set to 64KB to avoid problems.
Conclusion of the Nintendo 2DS / 3DS flash cards
- Even if the Gateway 3DS is the only flash card on the market that plays 3DS software, setting it up is not that easy. The card only works with a few firmware versions and is rather daunting for beginners and actually something for experimental users.
- The popular model is the R4i, which offers all the important functions at an attractive price, while the DSTWO is the luxury model with ongoing manufacturer support and many additional functions.
- However, flashcards remain illegal, which is why you should rely on original products.
