Too much meat is unhealthy for the human organism

- Every German consumes about 60 kg of meat a year.
- The German Nutrition Society recommends a maximum of 300 to 600 g of meat per week.

Red meat is unhealthy
In contrast to other types of meat such as poultry, red meat such as pork or beef is considered to be less healthy. According to studies, this type of meat is said to increase the risk of cancer.
- Red meat favors cardiovascular diseases. In a study, 519, 000 test subjects were examined to find out the connection between diet and cancer.
- The results show that red meat can increase the risk of colon cancer. According to this, the risk of the disease increases by 49 percent if consumption is increased by 100 g. The same amount of sausages actually increases the risk by 70 percent.
- The risk of stomach cancer is also said to be related to increased meat consumption. People who are infected with the Helicobacter pylori bacterium, which causes stomach problems, have a five-fold increase in risk.
- There is also a connection between the consumption of red meat and diseases such as pancreatic cancer and hormone-dependent breast cancer.
Cardiovascular diseases from too much meat
Cardiovascular diseases and problems with vessels are said to be caused by too much red meat.
- For one study, 113 healthy people ate 250 g of meat steak for four weeks. This was followed by a two-week break, which was accompanied by a four-week diet.
- According to the study, the red meat diet tripled the TMAO plasma concentration. This is responsible for the hardening of the arteries in the vessels.
- The poultry and vegetable diet led to a decrease in the plasma concentration in the test subjects.
- It has not yet been clearly established whether atherosclerosis is actually caused by excessive meat consumption. Nevertheless, the study recommends less meat consumption.
